Summer bedroom decor

Important introduction. This is Furby, our 5 year old Papillon who has retired from the show ring. We adopted him about 6 months ago and he has brought us so much joy (when he's not eating my computer and cell phone cables). Naturally as a retired show dog he is a ham and loves to have his picture taken. He is featured in a number of my pictures. If you love dogs, check out his instagram page: @thebettertoearyouwith (get it? Because he has big ears? I digress.)

Back to the main topic, beds. In the Mid-atlantic we have four solid seasons and right about now we are transitioning from cold to oppressively hot. This means some nights can be quite chilly and others make you want to turn the AC on. I've found in this case layers make a big difference. During the winter we have a down comforter on the beds and a quilt for extra chills. We have switched this out for some fun and lightweight quilts. The one featured in the picture above is from Target (Embroidered Grid Quilt Blue - Threshold™). It is a great value and really great quality for the style, quilts can be quite pricy depending on where you get them!

We paired the quilt with a super versatile blue Matelassé coverlet set from LL Bean. Though its not quite as budget friendly as the Target quilt it will go with so many different bed coverings and can even be thrown over the bottom of the bed or couch for some extra coverage! Under the coverlet we have added a set of blue/grey Kate Spade sheets. We found these for a great deal at Home Goods. I would definitely recommend checking out Home Goods or TJ Max for your sheets. They carry some great name brands at super reduced prices! I personally love having my sheets match with my bedspreads and this makes it so much more affordable!

I think all beds look so much more inviting and cozy with a couple decorative throw pillows. Here we have a couple with some fun textures and shapes to bring some personality to the room. The fuzzy white pillow is actually from Costco if you can believe it! They have carried it almost every year in different seasons so don't overlook the home decor sections at your bulk warehouse stores! I can't find the exact pillow to link, but the one below is pretty close. The one we got was about half this price, check back and see. Costco is always changing its product.

We finished off the look by supporting a local shop called City Bird. They are out of Detroit, MI (some hometown love!) and have some awesome pieces celebrating the state! Check out their Etsy page (https://www.etsy.com/shop/citybird)and website! I love the shape and pattern and the personality that it brings to the room.

We have accessorized with some fun vintage up-cycled pieces like the ship's hatch tray and have added a beautiful hand made quilt (more on this to come!). Our second bedroom also has a fun summer look, check back here for more!
